Why Don't Ceramic or Glass Pots Work?

If a magnet does not stick to an object, shaking a magnet around it will not do anything. Induction works on the same rule. It only reacts and generates heat when placed with magnetic cookware made of cast iron or magnetic stainless steel.

In contrast, ceramic clay pots, heat-resistant glass, and pure aluminum lack the magnetic properties needed to catch these swirling fields. Without a path for the currents to flow, no friction is created, and the pot stays completely cold no matter how high you turn the dial.

Why the Glass Surface Stays Relatively Cool

If you touch an induction cooktop right after removing a pot, it might feel warm or hot. However, the cooktop did not create that heat—it is simply residual heat transferred backward from the boiling hot pot onto the glass.

Because induction uses no open flame, it produces zero harmful combustion gases like carbon monoxide. It also does not waste energy heating the surrounding air, keeping your kitchen comfortably cool even in the summer. Its energy efficiency is far superior to traditional gas stoves.

Still, while the bare glass never heats itself, the spot where your hot pan just sat can burn you. It is always best to keep your hands off the surface until the residual heat indicator light turns off.
